Wild Hutte is a company started, run and owned by myself, Euan Gray, out of a passion for designing, building and creating.
My professional background is in architectural design, fabrication, carpentry, and scenic construction for theatre and event industry. I love working in timber, and believe strongly in using locally available materials wherever possible in my work. I love the idea that an object has a material relationship or belonging to the place it is designed for, and that this should inform the process of design from the outset.
So, my current work is centered around that idea of reconnecting with lost places, or providing simple places from which a fresh perspective can be found. It comes from traveling extensively across Scotland, surfing and biking, and finding thousands of ruins, abandoned farmsteads, all in incredibly beautiful places – and thinking about ways in which they can begin to be reconnected with.
By developing a series of small, flat pack huts that can be slotted into these places and used as shelters, or fitted into gardens as studios or reflective spaces – I’m trying to create an accessible, low impact of doing this.
I also believe firmly in collaboration and owe a lot to friends and family in this process – all I’ve learned in my life has been through other people, and I’d like to thank everyone I’ve learned from or worked with for this. I also hope to work with, learn from and share the process with many more people on this journey – if there is an idea you’d like to collaborate on, please get in touch.
